Dedicated Ice Fund-raising
I'd be really interested in hearing fund-raising suggestions. We'll need to raise a lot of money to make this a reality. Do you think a pledge drive would be useful, other fund-raising things like events?
Wes,
I've thought about this before, and some of the ideas I've considered are listed below. Some of these may be small potatoes given the amount of money we'd need to raise, but here goes:
*Buy A Rock Program - kind of like buying a brick at a library or something - you could make a donation to have your name engraved on one of our handles
*"Building Fund" surcharge on league fees that would be earmarked exclusively for a dedicated ice facility
*Custom bottled water to be sold on league nights (can we even do this at Sharks Ice facilities?)
*Curling Cookbook compiled of recipes from the club
*Personalized curling gear (such as brush heads) with our club logo. This one may be difficult due to the variety of brushes in use
*Pledge drive (as previously suggested)
It's extremely sad... that there has been little movement on the possibility of obtaining ice in fremont. Clearly i don't know all of the details or who's court the ball is in now (shark's ice or us). But, with little information from a club head and/or a building board (if there is one...i requested to be on it and haven't heard any news)....it seems like this project will never get off the ground. I think we could really use an update on where this stands and a person (or persons) aggresively leading the charge....then, we can figure this out. How is the general membership supposed to know how to fundraise if we don't have a clearly defined goal? We're are at a peak membership now and have a solid base....if there's no movement soon, i see the club really missing a window of opportunity here.
Am I way off base here?
Michael

Yes, I think a pledge drive would be a good start - let's see how serious the current membership is in supporting dedicated ice. Also, I would think corporate sponsorship is an option that should be pursued. A couple of $5-10k donations beats lots of $100 ones.
