Stacey MacNeil - At-Large Board Candidate 2009
Originally from Nova Scotia, my curling interest started quite a few years ago while living in New Brunswick, Canada. A friend of mine convinced me to go to an open house to try something different. At the time I thought – you’re kidding right? Growing up I had been exposed to just about every sport – except curling. Ice was for skating -- in fact, it was all about hockey. I thought … curling? Why would anyone want to do that?
But, eventually I gave in and agreed to attend the clinic – and even though I couldn’t stand on the ice and fell down quite a few times…I kept going and was soon hooked. I love curling. Love the game, love the fun, love talking about it, love it when you make “the shotâ€. (That happens once in awhile!) When I moved to California, I never expected to curl again until a colleague told me there was a league out here. I seriously doubted she knew what she was talking about until she sent me the link. If it wasn’t for Elaine, I would never have known.
I really didn’t know what to expect when I first showed up in Fremont. I thought … how exactly is this going to work in a hockey rink? But it does… Thanks in large part to the many dedicated volunteers who also share a passion for curling and a desire to help others learn and enjoy the game.
My interest in the board is simple. I’d like to contribute to support the club, help foster curling to have greater exposure in the community, grow the club membership and assist in making each club members’ experience a more enjoyable one. After all, you haven’t really lived until you’ve been chased off the ice by a zamboni!
