Upcoming Events

Established in 1958, the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club is the oldest arena curling club in the United States. SFBACC is a nationally-recognized leader in curling development, providing learning opportunities, youth scholarships, competitive development, recreational leagues, corporate and private events, and more. We have already taught thousands of Bay Area residents to curl in 2014. Now, we are raising funds to build a dedicated curling center right here in the Bay Area so that we can take these programs to the next level. Will you join us?

Schedule change for San Jose Fall League

Our club has just been notified by Sharks Ice that we no longer have curling on what was to be the last week of the fall league in San Jose.

Instead of curling on Tuesday December 7, 2010, our last week will now be Tuesday December 14, 2010.

Please communicate your concerns to the drawmaster, and we'll see what recourse we have. We apologize for the change.

Mini-spiel & Learn-to-Curl Meeting at San Jose, Tuesday, October 26, 2010

At 8 PM next Tuesday, October 26, there will be a planning meeting for a curling event at the outdoor ice rink Winter Lodge in Palo Alto, January 8, 2011. This will be a Learn-to-Curl with one or more sheets for a mini-spiel if there is enough interest from club members.

At the meeting we will do the initial planning and find out what areas people might be able to help with. There are many things to do so no contribution is too small. If you can’t attend the meeting but want to get involved just email Alice Mansell at alice@mansell.com and she will help you get involved.

SFBACC/GCC team capitalizes on USWCA development funding

A team composed of members of the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club and Seattle's Granite Curling Club participated in the Pacific International Cup in Richmond, BC in April 2010. They received funding via the Women's Curling Development Fund which is administrated by the United States Women's Curling Association (USWCA). You can read about it in the Fall edition of the USCA's Curling News:

The Curling News (scroll down to the middle of page 5)

Want to learn more about the Women's Curling Development Fund? You can read more at the USWCA website or you can ask our club's USWCA rep, TC Altus, at uswca@bayareacurling.com.

Future Planning Announcement

In the past year, the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club has more than doubled our club membership and seen significant growth in the number of supporters whose lives we have been able to enrich with a curling experience. We've been able to provide open houses, multiple lesson series and, of course, league curling.

Competitive Curling Update

We have a competitive curling update following the meeting on Tuesday.

There are three competitions where we expect that more than one team from SFBACC will be interested and a play-down format needs to be selected.

Club Nationals
MoPac (Mountain-Pacific region: CA, OR, ID, UT, AZ, NV, MT) has one spot each for men and women at the club nationals. The play-down procedure for 2010/11 has not yet been settled. Due to the increasing number of clubs and curlers in the region and the difficulty of all clubs being arena clubs with restricted ice times the SFBACC board expects and is in favor of each club having only one entry into the MoPac play-down...

Curling cancelled at Fremont for the Fall

Due to lack of enough interest per SharksIce requirements, Fall Curling has been cancelled at Fremont. If interested in sparing at either the San Jose or Oakland leagues, please contact the drawmasters for those locations (drawmaster-sanjose@bayareacurling.com, drawmaster-oakland@bayareacurling.com) and continue to watch the website for other opportunities to get out and do some curling.
