Granite is still looking for help with the Mixed Doubles Nat'l Championships Dec 3-6. Totally new and inexperienced folks are welcome! Here's the email from head official, Joe Roberts:
In an effort to build community and communication in the region - a MoPac discussion group has been started. This is a place to go to get more information about our regional bonspiels and playdowns and to ask questions and stay informed about MoPac issues. Please join!
Wine Country Curling is hosting a Learn to Curl session at Vacaville Ice Sports 551 Davis St., Vacaville, on Saturday Nov. 7. The session will start at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Participants should wear warm, loose fitting clothing and rubber soled athletic shoes. All necessary equipment will be provided. Certified Curling Instructors will be teaching the sport. There will be a small charge at the door for use of the ice.
(For anyone who wants to help out, set-up starts at 5:15 pm.)
Wednesday will be the start of the 100 day countdown to the Vancouver Olympics. As part of their coverage, NBC's Today show will have Debbie McCormick, John Shuster and, I think their teams, do a special bit on curling. The Today show runs from 7 - 11 am - I don't know the exact time the piece will air, but I suspect it will be in the 8 o'clock or 9 o'clock hours.
This is designed for Granite members, but they may be willing to take interested SFBACC members. Here's the GCC email:
On Sunday, November 15th we will be conducting a Level I and II officiating clinic to train new (and refresh current) officials on everything you need to know to officiate at a USCA curling event. This is also a great opportunity for new curlers to learn the ins-and-outs of the rules of curling.
Thank you to everyone who voted! The results are in and Jacket 1 in orange was the clear winner. (Jacket 4 was the runner-up.) Lyle and I will start working with embroiderers soon to get a sample made to be sure that the design and text will look ok. We certainly hope to use the design from Jacket 1, but, should the design not translate well to embroidery for some reason, we'll use the desing from Jacket 4.
Here's the winning look:

Curling Watch Party and Club Fundraiser: Olympic Trials
Come join us and watch the game at my house in Fremont. We'll have viewings of the Women's finals and the Men's finals on Saturday and Sunday
Dec. 12, 2009 5:00 PM Local (8:00 PM ET) Women's Final
Note this will likely be a pot-luck event, and will have two raffle items to raise money for our bonspiel next Spring.
We're attempting to create an official SFBACC jacket for two reasons: 1. so everyone who wants to can show their club spirit with a snazzy jacket, and 2. so our competitive curlers won't need to buy a new jacket for every event. These jackets will be available for members to purchase, but we will also have a supply of club-owned loaner jackets that folks can borrow for events (adding their own name via a velcro patch.)
The date of the bonspiel committee meeting has moved to Thursday, Oct 29 at 6:45 pm at Sharks Ice at Fremont. Contact email@example.com if you are unable to make it and send any updates you might have, and what you'd like to see accomplished in the next few weeks.
